Once upon a time, in a small village, the people lived simple lives. However, they were not very generous. Each family kept what they had and did not like to share with others, especially strangers. One day, a tired traveler arrived in the village. He had walked a long way and was very hungry. He knocked on several doors, asking for a little food, but everyone gave the same answer: “We have nothing to spare.” Some people even closed their doors quickly because they did not trust him. The traveler thought for a moment and then smiled. He walked to the center of the village and found a large pot. He filled it with water from a nearby well and placed it over a fire. Curious villagers began to gather around him. “What are you doing?” one woman asked. “I am making stone soup,” the traveler replied calmly. “Stone soup?” the villagers repeated. They had never heard of such a thing. “Yes,” he said, taking a small, round stone from his bag and dropping it into the pot. “It is very delicious, but it would be even better with a few simple ingredients.” The villagers watched with interest as the water began to heat. After a while, the traveler tasted the soup and said, “Hmm… it’s good, but a little salt would make it perfect.” A man in the crowd said, “I think I have some salt at home.” He went quickly and returned with a small amount, adding it to the pot. The traveler tasted it again. “Ah, much better! But you know, a few carrots would make it even tastier.” A woman stepped forward. “I have some carrots,” she said, and she brought them to add to the soup. Little by little, more villagers joined in. Someone brought potatoes, another brought onions, and another added a bit of meat. Each time, the traveler tasted the soup and suggested one more ingredient. Soon, the pot was full of delicious food, and the smell spread across the village. At last, the traveler said, “Now the soup is ready.” He shared it with everyone. The villagers sat together, eating and talking happily. It was the best meal they had had in a long time. As they enjoyed the soup, they realized something important. Alone, each of them had only a little. But together, they had created something wonderful. Before leaving, the traveler took his stone from the pot and put it back in his bag. The villagers thanked him and promised to remember what they had learned: sharing and working together can turn even the simplest things into something special. From that day on, the village became a kinder and more generous place Exercises
