The Story of the Bundle of Sticks

Long ago, in a village in Guinea, there was an old father with three sons. The sons often argued. They did not listen to each other, and they did not help their parents.
The father was worried. He wanted his family to live in harmony.
One day, he called his sons. He gave each son one stick.
“Break the stick,” he said.
Each son broke the stick very easily.
Then the father took many sticks and tied them together in a bundle.
“Now break this,” he said.
The sons tried, but they could not break the bundle.
The father smiled and said, “Alone, you are weak. Together, you are strong. If you continue to fight, the family will break. But if you stay united, nothing can break you.”
The sons understood. After that day, they tried to stop arguing and to help each other more.
